Text[0]=["","This Paul Reed Smith McCarty 10-top needed a complete refinish as a result of a previous repair shop's seriously misguided attempts to fill in some paint chips. More pictures and information can be found on the Restoration page."]
Text[1]=["","After several years of serious touring and a near-fatal drop on stage, this Les Paul Elegant was in need of major repairs. The owner decided that a darker cherry burst finish was in order as well. Check out the Repair page for more information."]
Text[2]=["","We always enjoy a challenge. We were asked to make a Strat style guitar with a 5A curly maple top, bound in ebony and silver with the design running up the middle of the body. After we finished the guitar, the client told us that he had approached four separate well-respected luthiers who told had him it couldn't be done. Read more about it on the Custom page."]
Text[3]=["","A freshly cleaned and polished Martin D-28. This Martin came to us so covered in grime it looked as if it had a satin finish. The beautiful rosewood grain shines through and the back of the guitar could be used as a mirror. The overall tone of the guitar improved significantly by removing the layers of dirt that hindered the vibration of the wood."]
Text[4]=["","A Les Paul after the intonation, bridge height, pickup height and stopbar were properly setup to the client's playing style. The stopbar height changes the tension over the bridge and is frequently overlooked. This adjustment affects the sustain and ease of bending strings."]
Text[5]=["","The owner of this guitar was certain it needed a total refret. But after a light leveling, crown and polish, this guitar was playing perfectly again."]
Text[6]=["","The Martin in this photo received a new bridge and saddle, however, while this isn't a setup issue, it does illustrate what a properly compensated saddle can look like in order to achieve correct intonation."]
Text[7]=["","This brazilian rosewood fretboard really came to life, showing its grain and bright color, after a thorough cleaning and a fret dressing."]
Text[8]=["","A brand new Martin acoustic having just recieved some filing to the nut slots to achieve the owner's desired action and playability at the top of the neck."]
Text[9]=["","Les Paul 68 Custom Reissue 1:
This Gibson suffered a severe neck break."]
Text[10]=["","Les Paul 68 Custom Reissue 2:
The only thing holding the top half of the neck to the bottom half was the headstock veneer."]
Text[11]=["","Les Paul 68 Custom Reissue 3:
This is the neck after being properly set, glued and refinished. The owner was astonished that there were no signs that the neck had ever been damaged."]
Text[12]=["","This Les Paul suffered through a fire, leaving all of the plastic melted and most of the guitar lightly charred. Here you can see the binding has been removed, the fretboard planed and radiused and, at the request of the owner, real mother of pearl position markers have been installed to replace the melted originals."]
Text[13]=["","This is a photo of a vintage Les Paul which was just refretted. Note that the binding nubs are still intact and the frets fit perfectly up to the binding."]
Text[14]=["","We regularly install new acoustic guitar pickup systems, and are frequently asked to upgrade older factory systems. A properly fitted L.R. Baggs system replaced a factory preamp and pickup in an older Takamine guitar. "]
Text[15]=["","Les Paul Elegant 1:
After several years of serious touring and a near-fatal drop on stage, this Les Paul Elegant was in need of major repairs."]
Text[16]=["","Les Paul Elegant 2:
The neck break had a poor repair which was coming apart and strange red paint had been applied, seemingly at random."]
Text[17]=["","Les Paul Elegant 3:
Here the neck has been properly fixed leaving no signs of the original break or the prior guitar-shop's repair. The top was also refinished in a darker cherryburst finish which you can see on the front page."]
Text[18]=["","Fender Starcaster 1:
As you can see, this Starcaster was in horrible shape. Someone had dropped the guitar breaking one of the sides. With the piece missing, we had to fabricate a new laminated side as a replacement."]
Text[19]=["","Fender Starcaster 2:
The top had been modified many times. Both original pickup holes had been enlarged along with several of the original pot and switch holes. An additional pickup hole had been carved in the middle of the guitar in as well as an extra potentiometer mounting hole. At some point in the history of this guitar, it had been spray painted bright red. Considering the amount of damage to the top, along with the client, we decided to carve a new top as opposed to trying to repair something this damaged. With the original top as a template for both size and arch contour, reproducing a new top was fairly straight-forward."]
Text[20]=["","Fender Starcaster 3:
Here is the finished guitar, which ended up looking as good as new. We were fortunate that the owner had much of the original hardware and electronics, limiting the amount of vintage parts we had to find."]
Text[21]=["","Paul Reed Smith 1:
This McCarty 10 Top saw several hard years of touring. The owner gave it to his regular luthier to repair the many chips and dings the guitar had suffered. Unfortunately, the luthier in question started off by adding automotive body filler to the guitar."]
Text[22]=["","Paul Reed Smith 2:
Fortunately, at some point during the original luthier's attempts to repair the guitar, the owner caught sight of what was going on and took the guitar home with him. This picture shows just a little of how wrong the attempted repairs were going and the condition we received the guitar in."]
Text[23]=["","Paul Reed Smith 3:
With several layers of body filler and some sort of enamel paint (incompatible with the acrylic urethane finish PRS uses), the only option was to strip the guitar back down to wood. Refinishing the guitar in its original whale-blue color with a thin lacquer finish brought the guitar back to life, with more sustain than it had originally we're told by the owner."]
Text[24]=["","Fender Mustang 1:
The owner of this guitar brought it to us with some embarrassment over the modifications he had done as a teen in the eighties. Un-played for the past 15 or so years, the owner could never bring himself to get rid of his first guitar, the instrument that had led him into a successful music career. Note the 15-year old duct tape still holding the pickguard on."]
Text[25]=["","Fender Mustang 2:
You can see the amount of routing damage done to the body and the original Daphne Blue paint in the untouched routes. We repaired the original body, at the owner's request, filling the various holes with poplar of matching grain and density."]
Text[26]=["","Fender Mustang 3:
We were able to obtain all vintage parts for the pieces that were missing, including pickups, switches, and pots. The finish is a match to the original Daphne Blue which we then lightly aged. You can see the majority of the body has a slightly dull, dirty tint, while the areas that are commonly contacted by the body show the brighter blue color. The chrome components also show appropriate age."]
Text[27]=["","1968 Les Paul Standard 1:
This unfortunate Les Paul had its pickup routes enlarged, a Floyd Rose tremolo installed, missing fingerboard binding, and a brushed-on gold finish which was mostly gone by the time it reached us."]
Text[28]=["","1968 Les Paul Standard 2:
The holes in the top were cleaned up and filled with maple at which time the pickup routes and bridge and tailpiece holes were re-drilled. The fingerboard was cleaned, radiused, refretted, and rebound. After sourcing original P-90 pickups, bridge and tailpiece, the guitar was refinished to look like new."]
Text[29]=["","The order for this guitar was the first time we had specific requests from both the artist and his guitar tech on the construction of the guitar. The guitarist requested a Strat made from one solid piece of maple, a rosewood fretboard, a black-cherry lacquer finish, and no plug, skunkstrip, or headstock located truss rod adjustment. The guitar tech needed to be able to adjust the relief easily as he was frequently doing relief adjustments during outdoor shows and between each city the tour stopped at to compensate for humidity changes."]
Text[30]=["","It took several months, but we were eventually able to find the perfect piece of maple for the guitar... the right size, age, curl, and tone. This is a true one-piece guitar, not a set neck or neck-through. The only glued-on piece of wood is the fingerboard. Note the small hole below the transition of the neck to the body. This is an adaptation of an old Gretsch idea... a geared, two-way adjustable truss rod with access through the back of the guitar."]
Text[31]=["","The feel, tone and sustain of this guitar is second-to-none. Finding the right pickups to fully exploit the solid-maple construction took some time, as we had to adapt to the very bright, clean tone of the wood. The right combination came by way of two Fralin pickups and a custom-wound RWRP center pickup of ours which really brought out the single-coil sparkle in positions 2 and 4."]
Text[32]=["","This LP looks pretty standard at a glance. The only noticeable difference is the pickups. This client wanted a LP with a vintage mini-humbucker in the neck and a vintage full-size humbucker at the bridge."]
Text[33]=["","Of course, the client had more specifications for the guitar than that. The body is carved one-piece mahogany, not mahogany with a mahogany top. The neck profile starts out as a slim-taper 60's and deepens to a late-50's feel. The inlays are vintage as well as the original 1969 Gibson pickups. It also has a narrow headstock with push-in bushings."]
Text[34]=["","Besides having a unique look, it has a very versatile sound. Mixing the mini and the full-sized humbuckers really paid off. We've heard from the client that he occasionally swaps a P-90 in place of the mini-humbucker for further sounds."]
Text[35]=["","We always enjoy a challenge. We were asked to make a Strat style guitar with a 5A curly maple top, bound in ebony and silver with the design running up the middle of the body. After we finished the guitar, the client told us that he had approached four separate well-respected luthiers who told had him it couldn't be done."]
Text[36]=["","The body is fully chambered alder with a curly maple top. That part was easy. The binding channels were all done by hand with a hammer and chisel. The real challenge was the continuous silver accent binding."]
Text[37]=["","Once the silver binding was in we bent and laminated ebony, fitting it to the channel. The result is truly one-of-a-kind."]
Text[38]=["","The client who ordered this guitar was very, very particular about details. He gave us CAD drawings, supplied all the woods, hardware and electronics, and provided us with a small book he'd written on how he wanted this guitar to be built. This is our kind of customer, someone who will accept nothing less than perfection."]
Text[39]=["","The guitar body was fully chambered and only an inch and a half thick, made of lightly figured cherry and finely-grained, clear Port Orford cedar. The neck is one-piece mahogany with mahogany skunkstripe, walnut plug, dual-acting trussrod, Honduras rosewood fingerboard and gold mother of pearl markers. The electronics were out of a Clapton Stratocaster, rewired to eliminate ground loops, and the cavities were all copper shielded."]
Text[40]=["","This Strat had the thinnest finish we've ever applied, barely thick enough to fill the grain... however, it was as the client specified. The finish was satin with the exception of the back of the neck, which was polished. The neck scale was an odd 25.25 inches, which we custom slotted. We had never tried this combination of woods on a guitar before, but after listening to the finished result, we'd recommend it to anyone."]
